Self-love Reminders: 5 Things You Are Not

Sometimes saying no is the best self-care. Rejecting others is difficult. But it’s even more difficult to pull yourself out of the roles you are in. So here are 5 self-love reminders for when you doubt your self-worth.

You are not an option

Never make someone your priority if you are only their option. - Self-love Reminders: Things You Are Not

Never make someone your priority if you are only their option.

Being treated like a backup sucks. There’s nothing wrong if you want someone to make time just for you. Unfortunately, things don’t always work out that way.

I’ve been with people that only asked me out when they had no one else. And a guy once told me he dated me because I look like his ex.

I’ve prioritized a lot of people over myself. And one thing I’ve learned is that it will be an option if you treat yourself as one. The more you compromise, the more they want from you.

So here is your first self-love reminder: you have the power to break this toxic cycle. All you need to do is to say no. You are better off doing things that you love, alone or not. If you want to be someone’s priority, be your priority first. Know your boundaries and protect them. You don’t lose people that mistreat you. They never should be part of your life at all.

It’s ok to take a different path. And you don’t need to play by the script.

Everyone around has a regular 9 to 5. But it doesn’t mean you should do the same thing. Your friends are all blonde. So as a brunette, you stand out.

Only you know what is best for you. And how you live your life is not something you need to explain. Don’t play by the rules. Write your own rules.

You are not a doormat

No one is entitled to your time, energy, and mental wellbeing.- Self-love Reminders: Things You Are Not

No one is entitled to your time, energy, and mental wellbeing.

A friend called in the middle of the night, venting about her new relationship. You wanted to go to sleep but couldn’t hang up the phone.

Your coworker asked you to cover her shift because she has a date. But you were having dinner with your family on the same night.

The guy you had a crush on just called and asked if you would come over. It had been 5 days since he replied to your text.

Sound familiar? We have all been pushed to do things against our will. Maybe it’s because of the fear of disappointing others. Or maybe we just want to be accepted.  But being a good person doesn’t mean you should bear with the toxic energy people throw at you. You deserve the same level of kindness you give to others.

You are strong, capable, and you have needs. Pleasing others should not be on your to-do list. Find the people that treat you with respect. They are the one that deserves your time and energy.

You are not supposed to cure everyone.- Self-love Reminders: Things You Are Not

This is a life-changing self-love reminder for me: you are not supposed to cure everyone. I used to settle in relationships hoping that people will change for the better. They never worked out. It doesn’t matter if they are family, a friend or your partner. If they are toxic, they are toxic.

You can’t cure someone who doesn’t see an issue in themselves. The best thing you can do is to suggest professional help. Walking away is not selfish. It’s survival.
